About my research:

My research focuses on the use of statistical techniques to examine various business strategy topics. Much of my recent research addresses the role of corporate social responsibility as a strategy component. Examples include green marketing strategies, corporate philanthropy and pharmaceutical research and development.

My advice to students:

My advice is to identify an academic discipline that you consider a labor of love and make it your passion. Your passion will generally be an area that fits your natural abilities and in which you easily excel. I believe that the academic areas in which you excel offer considerable guidance into the careers that you will find rewarding. Pursuing an academic discipline you love has the added advantage of creating the habit early in your career of seeking opportunities that are rewarding personally as well as financially. By exposing students to disciplines across the full range of business administration, the M.S. Management program provides a unique opportunity for students from fields outside business to identify the area that best suits their interests and talent.

What I enjoy most about teaching:

I love my academic discipline and believe that economics provides considerable value added to business students. Many students experience difficulty when attempting to master the analytical/logical thinking of economics. I have always found helping students to understand economics and to apply these concepts to their personal and professional lives to be very rewarding. On a more personal note, I benefited immensely from some excellent professors at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and appreciate the opportunity to "pay it forward".

About me:

I am a 36+ year road cyclist, a hobby that has always served my physical and emotional well being. My wife, a 35+ year member of the marketing faculty and Associate Dean for the last several years, retired from UNC Charlotte in January 2015. We both consider ourselves very fortunate to have spent our careers with the Belk College. We enjoy traveling and spending time together with our cat, the real boss at our house.
